The San Francisco Bay Area is a hot bed of activity for its female singers. Add the name of Sherri Roberts to the list containing Kitty Margolis and Madeline Eastman. She opens her program with a very boppish "Zoot Walks In" and exhibits some fine vocal chops. The very next tune is the standard "With A Song In My Heart," bouncing right back with "Social Call" and showing off her hornlike vocal qualities on "Two Kites." From then on, it just gets better and better. Roberts is the beneficiary of five-star arrangements by bassist Harvie Swartz and backing by Mark Soskin, drummer Danny Gottleib and saxophonist Chris Potter. —The Skanner |
